To make an existing asset Public you’ll need to edit each asset and change it’s status.

Here’s how:

Login (you need to be a ‘Manager’ of the folder the asset belongs to).

Display the Asset page you wish to update.

Click the Edit button in the “Status & Usage” panel.

Under Access/Visibility – select the “Public” radio button.

Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Check that Access is now set to Public in the Status & Usage panel (i.e. there will be no padlock icon displayed).

Note: When an asset is public – anyone can find, view and download the files for that asset without having to login or identify themselves. You will not be able to identify who download a file in your download reports or history (unless they happen to be a registered user who has logged in).

When creating new assets you often want to add a copyright or usage notice in the description or release notes section.

No problem – but the proper place for this (particularly if it’s the same each time) is to add to your account-wide default copyright clause.

To do this

Login as account owner

Click on the “Account” link at the top of the page (next to login/logout)

Click the Edit Details link in the Account Details panel.

Scroll down to the Default Copyright/Licence/Usage Details field.

Enter your text you want for your default copyright statement. This will appear for all new assets you create but will not change existing assets (you can however reset each asset individually to use your default). Note to write the copyright symbol you must right it in valid html code (i.e. ©).

Save your changes.

Now when you create a a new asset the default copyright will be applied.

This is a better solution to adding the copy to each asset on creation and will mean consistent copyright statements throughout your library.

Cadbury is dumped by consumers after palm oil debacle.

The latest ‘Most Trusted’ survey of New Zealand consumers by Reader’s Digest magazine shows last year’s top brand being dumped from its number one position to nowhere. It has been replaced at the top of the chart by Wattie’s, with two other food brands in the top five – chocolate maker, Whittaker’s and Tip Top Ice Cream.

With only three brands in the top 10, food producers are missing in action in a sector of the retail trade that demands trust – food. Japanese-based car and electronic brands Toyota and Sony filled out the top three spots, while the top retailer was not one of the national supermarket chains, but New Zealand Post.

There were few notable performances in the grocery sector, other than Gillette, which was the most trusted beauty and cosmetics brand, and Panadol, which came in top of the health and wellbeing sector.

The demise of Cadbury comes in the wake of its changing processes to include palm oil in its chocolate recipe, while reducing cocoa content. The arrival of Whittaker’s in the top echelon compounds the dumping of Cadbury, and could be the beginning of a long period of market dominance by a local chocolate producer.

We’re making things better again.

Last night and last Friday we pushed some changes to improve a few small things and fix a bug or two.’

1. Access Request emails sent to Managers now show both the asset id and name of the asset(s) being requested. These emails come from: notifications@brandfm.com but we’ve added the users email address to the reply to address.

2. Pagination links on search and browse results pages now appear larger and in the centre of the page.

3. The eCourier™ collection page has been improved with a much larger more obvious Download button and instructions.

4. eCourier history (Previous eCouriers) is now arranged in reverse chronological order (latest at top), and now also show the tracking reference.

5. Enhanced Access Request History so that all processed assets are listed in the request details. For example if a request has some assets Accepted and some Declined, these are now shown accurately (see example below).

6. Managers can now Download and eCourier files for unreleased (i.e. pre release) assets.

7. Welcome page. Users are now directed to the Welcome page when they login rather than the Dashboard page. This was requested by several clients who wanted users to view their customized Welcome page on arrival. Many customers are now publishing changing and important data to their Welcome pages.

Enjoy.

“Hi guys is there a way to delete all those BrandFM alerts from my inbox?”

The answer is yes.

1. Login to the site.
2. Click the My Details link (next to logout)
3. Click the Change Notification Settings button/link and select an option. You can turn off emails altogether or just change how often they are sent. Note if you switch off email – all your messages will be instead sent to your personal inbox on BrandFM.

OR

4. You can remove items from your Watchlist.
4.a Click on the Watched Items link
4.b Click the red [-] button to remove that item from your watch list (you’ll no longer be emailed when something in the watched item changes.)

Note: Whenever you download a file, the asset that the file belongs to is automatically added to your personal Watchlist.

On Thursday 25th, we made a recent minor update to the system.

1. To avoid problems where eCourier recipients are clicking the asset links instead of the download button and then getting confused because they have not been granted access – we’ve change the page so that those link are now inactive.

There will be a further change made to simplify the page and make the Download button more obvious and to remove other options for recipients.

If you have any other feedback or ideas on how to make the eCourier service even better – please let us know.

2. Fixed a problem with recording depth on products where when creating a new asset the depth was not saved.

If you’re still using IE6 – then it’s definitely time to upgrade.

Most web developers will tell you supporting IE6 (Microsofts now ageing web browser) is a real pain. Now some of the biggest brands on the web have bitten the bullet and are announcing an end to support for IE6.

Now Google has announced that it is ending support for IE6 for Google Apps 1st March.

Why make a statement about this at all? Surely most people have already upgraded to IE 7 or IE 8, Firefox , Chrome, Safari or something else. IE6 is ancient in Internet terms, originally released over 10 years ago. The problem is, there are lot of corporate and government users who are stuck with IE6, due to either legacy systems or tardy IT departments. This means busy IT departments must take the time to replace and/or upgrade not only the browser but any legacy system that require IE6.

But’s it’s time to act.

Google just announced an end the IE6 support in Google Apps.

Even Microsoft has released two major browser releases since IE6 (IE7 & IE8) and recommends users upgrade.

Facebook no longer supports IE6.

Yahoo suggest users use an upgraded browser.

Youtube is phasing out IE6 support soon.

Most major web 2.0 vendors have no or limited support for IE6

Local online accounting firm XERO, dropped support.

Getting the message? It really is time to kill off IE6.

Our recommendation: Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome for Windows PC’s, Firefox or Safari for Apple Macs. In our opinion IE8 still misses the mark on standards compliance.

Sometimes life’s serendipitous.

Take the Kiwi’s behind the small sailing trimaran , The Weta (great name BTW). Not only was The Weta recently awarded Boat of the Year in the Dinghy category by Sailing World magazine, now that Larry Ellison’s BMW/Oracle have won The 33rd Americas Cup in a Trimaran, you can bet there will be plenty of interest in anything Trimaran.

This has got to be good for The Weta guys. You’re probably thinking they have the luck of the Irish to be in this position. But the reality is that you make your own luck. Weta have put themselves in this position.

It goes to show that following your own course can often pay dividends. If you have a unique idea, an innovative product, or different design, it often pays to walk your own path. Zag when others zig. If it’s a genuinely good idea, eventually the crowd will catch on and you’ll be at the front of the wave (so to speak).

It takes vision and commitment. Words we hear again and again – but it’s absolutely true.

Personally I love that stuff and it’s great to see passionate innovators be recognized and rewarded for their vision.

Congratulations Weta Marine. I wonder how long before we see a wing-sail version.

So are you zagging yet?
